About Us
The Botswana Gambling Authority (also referred to as “Gambling Authority” or the “Authority”) is an autonomous body corporate that was established in terms of the Gambling Act, 2012. The Authority is charged with regulating the gambling industry in Botswana. The Gambling Act, 2012 commenced fully on 1st April, 2016 thus enabling the Gambling Authority to commence its regulatory function. Prior to April 2016, the gambling industry in Botswana was regulated under the Casino Act and The Lotteries and Betting Act.
Our purpose is to contribute to Botswana’s transformational agenda and socio-economic development by diversifying the gaming industry through developing and implementing a responsive licensing regime and promoting responsible gaming.

Governance
The Gambling Act and the King IV Report place the onus on the Board to set the course for gaming in Botswana and monitor the Authority’s actions. Members should work together to determine the Authority’s strategic goals, approve policies and strategies, monitor management’s execution, and ensure that everyone is held accountable for the Authority’s results.

- BWP 10 Million Reservation Directive for citizens
