Home Vacancies LEGAL OFFICER
Job Purpose

To support the Authority through legal advisory, drafting, and compliance support by preparing legal opinions, reviewing contracts and tender documents, supporting regulatory development, assisting with enforcement and debt recovery matters, and maintaining accurate legal records.

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Provide sound, well-reasoned, and timely legal opinions on matters affecting the Authority.
  • Advise internal departments on the interpretation and application of relevant legislation and internal policies.
  • Oversee litigation matters, including evaluating disputes, recommending the institution, defence or settlement of cases, and monitoring the progress and management of legal proceedings.
  • Identify legal and regulatory risks and recommend appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Draft and review correspondence to ensure compliance with the Gambling Act, Gambling Regulations, licence conditions, and any other relevant legislation.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and other legal documents to safeguard the Authority’s interests.
  • Administer all contracts and act as custodian of all legal documents, including maintaining and regularly updating the legal register.
  • Carry out any other duties as directed by management, from time to time, in the interest of the Authority.
 
Minimum Requirements:
  • LLB or equivalent legal qualification
  • At least 3 years’ relevant legal experience with exposure to:
    • Legal drafting and advisory work
    • Contracts and tender document review
    • Regulatory compliance or statutory interpretation
  • Strong research, analytical, and drafting skills
  • High integrity and sound professional judgement
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
 
Added Advantage:
  • Experience in a regulatory or public sector environment
  • Experience dealing with external entities on compliance or enforcement matters
  • Exposure to debt recovery processes and working with external attorneys
